2007– The Year in Review
GBA Celebrates Another Successful Year!

The Greensboro Builders Association enjoyed another successful year in 2007 with several new initiatives being undertaken. We greatly appreciate all the time and energy our members provided to ensure the successful of all our events and activities. Below are just a few of the many accomplishments during the year by our various councils and committees.

Builder Services & Advocacy

Builders Council
Our Builders Council hosted roundtables and seminars for builder members to share information and discuss common issues and concerns. Communications remain active with both City and County officials.

Parade of Homes
2007 was our largest event to date with 116 entries! More than 600 attended our Awards Banquet.   Juvenile Diabetes was a benefactor of the Parade of Homes.

Remodelors Council & Tour of Remodeled Homes
Our Remodelors Council continued to conduct monthly educational meetings for council members. In the summer, we held a successful Tour of Remodeled Homes with 15 entries showcasing professional remodeling projects to the community.

Triad Sales & Marketing Council
Our Sales & Marketing Council expanded to a regional council – designed for anyone involved in the marketing and sale of new homes.  The Council continued to provide educational programs for council members including NAHB MIRM designation courses.

Community Service

Benefit Trust Contributions
GBA’s Benefit Trust made financial contributions during the year to several organizations including a $10,000 contribution for a Katrina Relief trip lead by local builder members.   Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat project received $10,000 from the Holiday Showcase of Homes

Remodelors Council
Our Remodelors Council completed a sunroom addition for Hospice of Greensboro at Beacon Place.

Housing Foundation
Efforts continue with the City of Greensboro on promoting affordable housing in our community and ways to involve GBA members.

Advocacy

TREBIC
GBA continues to work hand-in-hand with our government affairs arm - the Triad Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition (TREBIC) - on regulatory and policy issues that impact the building and real estate community.   The largest issue in 2007 was the review and opposition to the proposed Jordan Lake Stormwater Management Rules.

BUILD PAC
Contributions were made to Greensboro City Council candidates supportive of the building industry. All members are encouraged to make annual financial contributions to our NCHBA Build PAC to support elected officials.

Member Services

Public Relations & 50th Anniversary
A new logo was introduced in the spring for the Association with emphasis on branding of association and signature events – upgrading all event publications.

The Greensboro Builders Association began the celebration of its 50th anniversary with a special member event at the GBA office attracting more than 300 members.

Membership TEAM
A very successful membership drive was held in the fall attracting more than 100 new members to our Association.   In addition, we introduced the Affiliate membership for employees of member firms.

Golf Tournaments
We conducted two successful golf tournaments with all net proceeds from the fall tournament – approximately $11,000 - going into our Scholarship program.

Special Events
We held a successful Southern Ideal Home Show Preview Night; Associates Expo and introduced Industry Update lunches.
