Builders Give Back to the Community Greensboro Builders Association (GBA) members are active, concerned citizens who live and work in Guilford and surrounding counties. The Builders Association is involved in numerous community service projects on an ongoing basis. Providing affordable housing is a priority for the Builders Association. Over the past twelve years, GBA has helped to provide more than 75 affordable homes in Greensboro. In 2003, GBA entered a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to build 12 homes in 1 week...called RAISING ROOFS... BUILDERS FOR HABITAT. This project was tremendously successful due to the generous contribution of Association members. We held subsequent builds in 2004 and 2006. To date, we have constructed 32 Habitat homes in Stonegate Crossing. In the fall of 2005, we completed a Habitat home in partnership with Children's Home Society of North Carolina for a foster family. This was a pilot project between the three organizations and one that the Children’s Home Society hopes to replicate in other communities with local Builders Associations and Habitat affiliates. Hurricane Katrina Relief – The Greensboro Builders Association pledged $10,000 to support rebuilding projects in the Gulf Coast. Numerous GBA builder and associate members have traveled to this area over the past two years helping with disaster relief initiatives and have additional trips planned this year. Amy's House - A Room at the Inn of the Triad - The GBA Remodelors™ Council spearheaded a renovation project which was completed in May 2005. This project recently won NCHBA and NAHB Awards for a community service project. This project took a duplex in very poor condition and completely renovated into a wonderful home for homeless, single mothers after the birth of their children. Bingham Street redevelopment project - The GBA Housing Foundation worked in conjunction with the City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Housing and Development Partnership to construct eight new, energy efficient homes in Eastside Park. One of the homes constructed in 2004 was a universal design home. Home Builders Care Victims Relief Fund - GBA and its members contributed $12,500 to the victims of our nation’s 911 tragedy. Greenville Flood Recovery - GBA members rebuilt two homes in Greenville, NC in the fall of 2000 that had been destroyed by Hurricane Floyd. Area builders supervised volunteer work crews for twelve consecutive weekends. The Greensboro Builders Association contributed more than $40,000 in addition to the volunteer manpower to help two families regain their homes. Greensboro Children’s Museum - GBA members have been involved in numerous projects over the years that have supported the development and growth of the Greensboro Children’s Museum. Spaghetti-O’s - GBA has worked in conjunction with Inasmuch Ministries to provide food for underprivileged school children during summer months. Many of our area youth are on free and reduced lunch during the school year. Inasmuch Ministries makes sure these children have hot meals throughout the summer. GBA members are committed to ensuring Greensboro and Guilford County remain a great place to live, work and raise a family. The Greensboro Builders Association is involved in supporting youth, education and affordable housing for all Greensboro residents.
