Sixty years ago, a group of Greensboro homebuilders saw the reputation of their trade being tarnished by unqualified, untrained, and often unscrupulous builders looking to make a quick buck in the burgeoning 1950s housing boom. To protect homebuyers from shoddy construction and shady contractors, the group decided to form a trade association which would set standards for reputable, professional builders. The result was the Home Builders Association of Greensboro, which was chartered by the National Association of Home Builders on September 16, 1957.
Today our organization known as the Greensboro Builders Association (GBA) is still focused on many of the same things…serving consumers in new and remodeled residential and commercial construction. We represent more than 600 members in the Greensboro area comprised of licensed general contractors, trade contractors, suppliers and service providers.
A few additional milestones we are celebrating this year is the 30th anniversary of our Remodelers Council; the 20th anniversary of our Tour of Remodeled Homes; and we will be constructing our 60th home as part of our Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat partnership with Habitat Greensboro. The celebration continues into the spring of 2018 with the 60th anniversary of our Parade of Homes.
As we celebrate providing 60 years of service to our members, industry and community…we look forward to what the future holds for our Association.
