October is Careers in Construction Month
Looking for a rewarding, high-paying, and stable career? The construction industry is booming, and skilled tradespeople are in high demand! From building new homes and remodeling kitchens to shaping entire communities, careers in construction offer incredible opportunities for growth and success.
Unlike traditional four-year college degrees, skilled trade programs are faster, more affordable, and often pay you to learn. Many students complete training in two years or less through technical schools or apprenticeships while gaining real-world experience on the job.
The financial benefits are impressive, too. Skilled professionals in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC earn $50,000–$80,000 on average, with many advancing to six-figure incomes through certifications, experience or starting their own businesses. Best of all, the demand for skilled workers means job security for years to come.
The Greensboro Builders Association is committed to helping the next generation of construction professionals succeed. Through partnerships with area schools, colleges and workforce development programs, we are focused on building greater awareness for the career opportunities in construction…along with helping identify internships, apprenticeships and training opportunities.
Industry Member Participation
Industry members are needed to assist our educational and organizational partners. This can include visiting classrooms…participating in career fairs…providing job shadowing…mentoring students…providing building materials and/or financial resources to support various workforce initiatives. If you are interested in joining our workforce team…let us know your areas of interest by completing a brief online survey…and we will be in touch as opportunities arise.
Scholarships & Training Grants
Thanks to the generous support of our members, we’ve established a Construction Careers Scholarship Fund to assist students and adults pursuing careers in carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and construction management. Applications are now being accepted for Spring 2026 scholarships at area community colleges.
